Browser-first charting, screening, Pine Script strategy testing and paper trading

What it does

TradingView is a browser-first charting and market-analysis platform from TradingView, Inc. It combines Supercharts, stock, ETF and crypto screeners, Pine Script for custom indicators and strategies, Bar Replay, strategy backtesting and paper trading that every user can access. Market data comes from its own feed, which the data-coverage page says spans stocks, futures, options, forex, crypto, funds and economic data; some sources are delayed by 5 to 30 minutes unless real-time data is bought. TradingView is software and data only: live orders go through third-party brokers listed in its broker directory, and its Terms state that the content is not financial advice.

Workflow stages: Research & scan Analyse Practise & test

Strengths

  • Paper Trading is available to all users, including the free Basic plan. 6
  • Pine Script is included on every plan, including Basic, with a calculation time limit of 20 seconds on Basic, 40 on Essential to Premium and 100 on the top plan. 210
  • Bar Replay on all plans, plus Deep Backtesting on up to two million bars and one million trades for Premium and above. 45
  • Apps are offered for web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android. 92
  • TradingView's data-coverage page states "3,539,722 instruments" and 100+ stock and futures exchanges (provider counts). 7

Limitations and trade-offs

  • Basic allows 2 indicators per chart and 3 price alerts, has no webhooks, shows ads and limits Bar Replay to daily and higher timeframes. 2
  • Some exchange data is delayed by 5 to 30 minutes; real-time add-ons for exchanges such as NASDAQ, NYSE and CME need a paid plan or trial. 782
  • Monthly plans, upgrades and market data are non-refundable; annual plans can be refunded within 14 days. 2
  • The Terms license market data for display only and prohibit automated trading with TradingView data. 1

The free Basic plan is usable but tight: two indicators per chart, three price alerts, one saved layout and replay on daily and higher timeframes only. Intraday replay starts at Essential with 180 days of 1-minute data, CSV download of chart data starts at Plus, and Deep Backtesting starts at Premium. Real-time data for exchanges such as NASDAQ, NYSE or CME is a separate add-on that needs a paid plan or trial, and neither monthly plans nor market data are refundable. Pine Script runs on TradingView servers with a per-plan calculation time limit of 20 to 100 seconds.

Who it suits

Suits discretionary traders who want one charting workspace across browser, desktop and phone, and who may later push alerts to their own systems through webhooks. Pine Script users and traders who want to rehearse on paper or with Bar Replay before risking money get a free starting point. Intraday traders who rely on minute-level replay or more than two indicators per chart should budget for at least Essential, and anyone needing primary US exchange data should price that add-on first.

Not confirmed

Not confirmed on the vendor's site (checked 13 Oct 2026): the trial length for each plan and region, how the pricing page renders in USD (we read USD values from page data while the page displayed DKK), whether the "Expert" plan is still sold, the per-exchange data fees your account will be shown, fundamentals coverage, and the Linux download channel.

Features and plan conditions

Charting uses Supercharts with what the vendor counts as 400+ built-in indicators and 110+ drawing tools, and 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 charts per tab depending on plan. Scanning covers stock, ETF, DEX and crypto screeners, with a Pine Screener on the two highest plans. For testing there is Bar Replay, strategy reports with CSV and XLSX export from Essential, and Deep Backtesting on up to two million bars for Premium and above. Active price alerts range from 3 to 1,000 by plan, and webhook alerts start at Essential with two-factor authentication switched on. Paper Trading is open to all users, and an economic calendar filters events by country and importance.
