Crypto For Humanitarian Aid: Binance’s Response To The Morocco Earthquake

In an innovative and heartfelt response to the recent earthquake in Morocco, Binance Charity is set to airdrop up to $3 million worth of Binance Coin (BNB) to users in the affected region.

Crypto For Humanitarian Aid: Binance’s Response To The Morocco Earthquake

The recent earthquake in Morocco’s Marrakesh-Safi Province left devastation in its wake, affecting countless lives and communities. In the face of this tragedy, Binance, one of the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, is stepping up to provide much-needed assistance to those impacted by the disaster.

Crypto Comes to the Rescue

Natural disasters often disrupt traditional financial systems precisely when urgent financial aid is required. This is where the power of cryptocurrencies shines, offering a fast, cost-effective, borderless, and transparent means of providing assistance to disaster-stricken areas. Binance recognizes this potential and is leveraging it to extend a helping hand to earthquake survivors.

The identification of eligible recipients for the BNB airdrop will be based on Proof of Address (POA) records completed before September 9, 2023, in Marrakesh-Safi Province, which bore the brunt of the earthquake’s impact. Each user who completed their POA in this region before the specified date will receive $100 worth of BNB directly into their Binance accounts.

Understanding that some affected users may not have completed POA prior to the earthquake, Binance is extending its support to those who complete the process between September 9 and September 30, 2023. Users who fall into this category will receive a donation of $25 worth of BNB.

Spreading Support Beyond the Affected Area

Binance’s humanitarian efforts extend beyond the earthquake-affected region. The exchange is also airdropping $10 in BNB to active transacting users across Morocco who reside outside the affected area. In total, Binance expects its aid to reach approximately 70,000 Binance users living in Morocco.

These funds, set to commence distribution from September 12, 2023, could not have come at a more critical time for those grappling with the aftermath of the earthquake. They offer a lifeline for covering essential needs such as medical supplies and food, especially when traditional banking systems may be compromised.

A Call for Compassion and Solidarity

Changpeng Zhao (CZ), Binance’s founder and CEO, expressed his deep concern for the Moroccan people and the devastating impact they have endured. He emphasized that Binance’s aim is to provide support to those affected and encouraged Moroccan users who receive these donations but remain unimpacted by the earthquake to pass on the funds to those in dire need.

Furthermore, Binance Charity has set up a public donation address to allow anyone to contribute to the relief efforts. All donations received at this address will be directed to an authorized NGO (the organization’s name will be disclosed soon) dedicated to helping those in need. Binance Charity accepts donations in multiple cryptocurrencies, including BNB, BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, and BUSD.

In these challenging times, Binance stands in solidarity with its users and the Moroccan community. The exchange’s commitment to leveraging crypto for good exemplifies the broader potential of blockchain technology to make a positive impact on the world, particularly in times of crisis. As the crypto community rallies together to provide assistance, it underscores the resilience, compassion, and innovation inherent in this evolving digital landscape.
